Drug Testing Students

In some schools around the world, teachers and faculty are testing students for drugs. Most tests are with cause, but some are random. I believe that if the decision is made to test a students for the use of any drug there should be some reason presented to the student. After this reason is presented, the faculty is free to test the student at their leisure. In High Schools today over 80% of students claim to have seen one of the following things in their school;

  • Illegal drug use
  • Illegal drug sales
  • Students possessing illegal drugs
  • Students high on drugs
  • Students under the influence of alcohol
Schools need to find ways to lower these numbers. The tests they give their students are necessary to maintain a fully functioning school. Without these tests students will continue to be high and drunk in school, and their grades will pay the price. The more tests are given out the higher chance the school has of catching an offender. So, at the first sign of red eyes, impaired speech or lack or motor skills, teachers should begin observing the student more closely to find evidence of drug use. Upon finding this evidence tests may be given.
In conclusion, I believe that tests should be given out with a just reason. Students will have better grades and therefore have a better life. If signs of drug use are not presented in school, then the student should have nothing to worry about. Students can continue to act how they wish outside of school, but the number of students under the influence in schools will drop.

I completly agree in the matter. i think that kids should be tesated for drugs if there is a just reason at hand. i don't think that they should just randomly test to because that would be and envastion of privacy. but if the teachers do see that a kid is showing the effects of being on drugs then they should be allowed to test them. but other wise they should leave them alone.so i agree with what this passage has to say and the facts that are in it..

Drug testing should not be tested in school because it is a personal belief and decision. As long as the student is not causing harm to any of his/her classmates, then it is not the school's problem. Especially if it is a public school. If the student is using illegal drugs, then it is in between the student and the law enforment, not the school!

The drug test process, consists of a urine, hair, or blood sample, being sent to a lab to be analyzed for anything and everything. Students are required to give these samples in the middle of school. The only problem is, the kids who are being drug tested with a certain amount of honesty, are being pinned more than the ones the faking the tests. The kids who have no plan on stopping any usage of illegal drugs and furthermore the trafficking of these drugs, are using samples not of their own. Often times a faker will carry a bottle of urine with him/her for up to a week as to make futile any attempts to catch the students with a random test. adn while these students wil;l always have clean tests, the students who are actually trying to cut down of usage if now completely stop are being prosecuted as the real criminals. But such is life, the ones willing to do the dirty work will always get off clean, and the honest ge tthe shitty end of the stick, so, go for it school, drug test everyone in the school and see what you come up with. if failure rate is any less than 80%, than you have a large number of fakers.

I strongly agree with you. The numbers of teens doing drugs is way to high. I mean the rate of first use is 12-15, a 12 year old should not be using drugs, he or she is way to yound to handle this sort of thing. Also in 1998 56% of kids from the age 12-17 were smoking marijuana. We should drop that down by a lot because smoking first of all ruins your lungs, and makes you age faster.
